Something you might not have considered while knee-deep in planning your wedding was a second photographer. It’s a tough decision, and a lot of new brides and grooms ask me whether it’s even worth it.
For context, a second shooter is someone who works in tandem with your primary shooter, (me!). This results in double the coverage for your wedding. If you’re on the fence about it, or can’t yet see the value of hiring on a second person, let me help you weigh in on that decision.
In short, whenever anyone asks, I typically recommend it. Although, I am confident that can capture each detail of your wedding day solo, I want you to know the added benefits that a second photographer brings to the table. A second photographer is helpful to have for a variety of reasons but can be especially valuable in the following scenarios;
What does the timeline of your Big Day look like? If you’re on a strict schedule, a second photographer is a great way to divide and conquer the work. Traditionally, the bride and groom get ready in separate locations. In this instance, the second photographer can take photos of the groom and groomsmen while I handle the bride with her bridesmaids. Or, I can take on the family portraits while my partner covers the cocktail hour.
A second photographer allows for the luxury of covering more footage. If the couples are getting ready at two separate locations, we can be in two places at once! Or perhaps your wedding venue is huge and your guest list is long. Two people working at once gives us the opportunity to cover every inch of your beautiful location and everyone in it!
Another camera means more angles, thus a larger variety of shots. This is especially helpful during the ceremony, for the first look, and for capturing all of the candid dance-floor shots at the end of the night. Your big day goes by so quickly. When I deliver your photos to you, you’ll be grateful for such a large catalog of images to choose from.

With another photographer comes another perspective. The photos they take with their own creative vision produces photos that I would not have thought of taking on my own. They might not be the shots I had originally mapped out in my head, but I’m always impressed with the outcome. And nothing compares to being inspired by the work that other artists do.
Excuse me while I state the obvious here, but you’ll get more photos to choose from. There are too many amazing photos to pick from when you have two photographers. I can’t help it; I always end up sending more pictures your way!
A second photographer is extremely beneficial to your wedding, and I cannot emphasize that enough. Another shooter gives you more opportunity to capture every breathtaking moment of your nuptials. Given how fast it flies by, you’ll want as many photos as possible to retain those special memories one, three or even ten years down the line.
